FLYC Community, we present to you a new race / challenge, the Twin Toilets Challenge!!
Inspired by the Trans-Folsom, Three Bridge Fiasco and Twin towers races, this race will take you up both forks of the American river on Folsom Lake. Here's the interesting part.. race what you've got, when you want on any day you want. That's right.... sailboat, kayak, dinghy, rowing shell, foil, kite, sailboard, heck you can even swim it if you're truly looking for a challenge (not recommended without a support vessel). Just no motoring at any time.
The rules are simple...
You can start on any day at any time of day. The start line is the row of 5 mph buoys indicating the entrance to Brown's Ravine.
You must go around two specific floating toilets (North and South forks) to either port or starboard. The south fork toilet is located in New York Cove and the north fork toilet is located near Granite Cove. (Approximate GPS locations: North Fork: 38'47.235 N 121'6.223 W South Fork: 38'44.872 N 121'4.565 W
It is your choice which toilet to go around first.
The race must be continuous, there is no stopping and restarting of the race, or resuming on a different day. There are no limits on the number of attempts or entries.
No one shall pass between the southernmost hazard buoy on the peninsula and the nearest land. Yes, this means the shortest course is likely at the lakes highest point as the peninsula extends towards the dam as the water drops.
Sail powered vessels may not paddle their craft at anytime, any paddle powered craft may not deploy a sail of any type. Motors of any type may be on board but the use of a motor during the race disqualifies the participant and stops the attempt for that day.
No ratings systems will be employed for the purpose of adjusting finish times.
The finish line is the same line of 5mph buoys at Brown's Ravine used for the start.
To have a qualified run you must take a picture or screen shot of the time with seconds displayed of your start time and finish time. You must also include a selfie or picture of your boat passing each floating toilet. A full GPS track with times including seconds is also acceptable.
Race submissions can be either posted on the club Facebook page (include a story if you'd like) or can be sent to flyctwintoiletchallenge@gmail.com
Finish times for keelboat, dinghy, multi-hull, kiteboard, sailboard and paddle craft categories will be tracked and displayed on the FLYC.org webpage and may get special recognition at the annual awards banquet.
As a reminder.. participation in this challenge is the sole responsibility of the skipper of each vessel. Traversing a long distance of water has risk, please know your own capabilities and the capabilities of your vessel before attempting this challenge. The Folsom Lake Yacht Club cannot be held responsible for your choice to attempt this challenge and will not be available for rescue in the event rescue of any type is needed.
Best of luck!! Have fun!! Can't wait to see what everyone can do!!
